2017: A class-action lawsuit was filed regarding the marketing for the World OutGames Miami 2017 event. The complaint alleges that the marketers misleadingly continued to promote the 10-day event with sporting events, speakers, and celebrity appearances even though, according to plaintiffs, the Florida event was a “sham and miserable failure” because the organizers cancelled the event due to financial burdens. Plaintiffs claim that thousands of attendees either were left with non-refundable plane tickets and hotel reservations or needed to pay to cancel their travel plans. (Ferrell et al v. Miami Beach-Miami LGBT Sports & Cultural League, Inc. a/k/a World OutGames Miami 2017 a/k/a Miami Out Games et al, Case No. 18-cv-20628, S. D. FL.)
