In March 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Whirlpool for allegedly misleadingly marketing ovens with a High-Temperature Self-Cleaning Cycle. According to the complaint, the company represents that the self-cleaning feature uses high temperatures to “burn[] soil to a powdery ash” when, in reality, the ovens do not function as advertised because using the self-cleaning feature puts the ovens at risk of becoming inoperable. (Turgeon et al v. Whirlpool Corp., Case No. 17-cv-473, E. D. CA.)
