Welch’s Fruit ‘n Yogurt Products
Allegations: Misleadingly marketing that products are made with yogurt when they are actually made with a candy-like coating
In March 2019, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Welch Foods Inc. for allegedly misleadingly marketing Welch’s Fruit Snacks. The complaint alleges that the company misleadingly places the “With Fiber” claim near pictures of real fruit on the product labels to give the impression that the fiber in the snacks comes from fruit when, according to the complaint, the fiber actually comes from chicory root fiber. Plaintiffs also allege that the “With Fiber” claim deceptively gives the impression that the snacks are a good source of fiber when, according to the complaint, each serving of the snacks contains less than 10% of the daily recommended value of fiber.
