Ticketmaster and Live Nation
Allegations: Misrepresenting that they secure consumers’ personal information when they failed to do so and there was a data breach in May 2024
February 2015: A judge granted final approval of the settlement.
April 2014: A judge preliminarily approved a $400 million settlement of a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster for allegedly deceiving consumers. Specifically, plaintiffs claim that Ticketmaster described processing fees and UPS expedited delivery prices as necessary to cover costs of processing orders when, according to plaintiffs, these fees were actually a way for the company to make a profit. According to the settlement terms, , class members may receive (1) up to seventeen $2.25 discount codes to be used toward future purchases of tickets from Ticketmaster, (2) up to seventeen $5 discount codes to be used toward future UPS charges when ordering from Ticketmaster, and (3) up to seventeen codes to redeem for concert tickets at Live Nation venues. Class members get two tickets for each code and may use a maximum of two codes for each event (for a maximum of four tickets). The company also agreed to change its website and FAQs to more clearly disclose that its processing and delivery fees may profit Ticketmaster and may not be what Ticketmaster is charged for the services. (Schlesinger et al v. Ticketmaster, Case No. BC304565, Superior Court of the State of California, Los Angeles).
