Monat Dietary Supplements
Allegations: Falsely marketing products as “all-natural” and able to support physical performance, mental alertness, and focus, and provide energy
December 2018: Plaintiffs filed a First Amended Master Consolidated Class Action Complaint alleging that the company misleadingly markets Monat products as “safe” and “clinically tested, proven and [g]uaranteed to deliver ‘Longer, Fuller, Stronger, Younger-Looking Hair in Just 90 Days” when, according to the complaint, the products cause hair loss, hair breakage, head sores, infections, and other severe skin reactions. Plaintiffs also claim that the products are FDA approved when, according to the complaint, the FDA does not approve hair products that are used for cosmetic purposes.
June 2018: Several class-action lawsuits alleging that the multilevel marketing company Monat Global Corp. deceptively markets its hair care products were transferred to one court to be heard with similar cases. The complaints, which were filed earlier in the year, allege that the company misleadingly markets that its hair care products will provide various benefits – including hair growth, stability, and strength – when, according to the complaints, the products do not provide the advertised benefits and actually cause hair loss. Some of the complaints also allege that the company functions as a pyramid scheme and falsely represents that the products do not contain ingredients that are actually in them.
