February and April 2018: Multiple class-action lawsuits were filed against multilevel marketing company Monat Global Corp. for allegedly misleadingly marketing Monat Hair Care Products. Specifically, plaintiffs allege that the company, which they claim functions as a pyramid scheme, misleadingly markets the products as being “safe” and “suitable for all skin and hair types” and claiming that an ingredient in the products decreases hair loss and increases hair regrowth when, according to the complaint, the products cause hair loss for many consumers. Plaintiffs also claim that the company falsely represents that hair care products do not contain certain ingredients – including petrochemicals – when, according to the complaint, the products contain the ingredients.
