Allegations: Misleadingly marketing products as naturally flavored when the peach and blackberry flavored teas contain the synthetic flavoring ingredient citric acid
In March 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Celestial Seasonings for allegedly misleadingly marketing that vanilla is the flavoring ingredient in Sleepytime Vanilla Herbal Tea when, according to plaintiffs, the ingredients list reveals that the teas contain a French vanilla flavoring ingredient( “Natural French Vanilla Flavor”) instead of a vanilla ingredient, such as vanilla extract or vanilla flavoring. (Spitzer et al v. Celestial Seasonings, Inc., Case No. 20-cv-2000, S.D.N.Y.)
