Prices for AARP’s Medigap Insurance Policies
In February 2018, class-action lawsuits were filed against AARP and UnitedHealth Group for allegedly charging artificially inflated prices for Medigap supplemental health insurance policies that offer extra coverage to Medicare beneficiaries and failing to disclose that a portion of the insurance premiums is used as a “royalty” payment that goes from UnitedHealth to AARP. Plaintiffs also claim that the payments AARP collects for marketing and selling these policies are illegal because it is not licensed as an insurance agent. .
