Be wary of questionable and deceptive claims in origin stories.
In January 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Michelin North America, Inc. for allegedly misrepresenting the tread depth (the measurement from the top of the tread rubber to the bottom of the tire’s deepest grooves) of Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Ultra High Performance tires. According to the complaint, the tread depth of the tires is regularly at least 1/32 inch less than the tread depth represented by Michelin. (Puckett et al v. Michelin North America, Inc., Case No. 17-cv-60, D. OR.)
