Maytag Centennial Washing Machines

In February 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Whirlpool Corporation for allegedly misrepresenting the water and energy efficiency of Maytag Centennial washing machines (specifically, model numbers MVWC6ESWW0, MVWC6ESWW1, MVWC7ESWW0). The complaint claims that the company markets the washing machines as ENERGY STAR®-qualified when, in reality, they do not meet the standards to be marketed as such and use significantly more water and energy than their labels state. (ENERGY STAR®-qualified washing machines must exceed minimum standards for water and energy efficiency. The qualified machines use approximately 50% less water and 37% less energy than standard models.) (Famular et al v. Whirlpool Corporation, Case No. 16-cv-944, S. D. NY.)
