February 2016: A state court judge found that Philip Morris deceptively marketed Marlboro Lights, in violation of Massachusetts state law, but found that plaintiffs did not prove a specific measure of damages with reasonable certainty.
1998: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Philip Morris alleging that the company falsely represented that Marlboro Lights cigarettes were less harmful and delivered less tar and nicotine than Regular Marlboros when such claims were not true. (Geanacopoulos et al v. Philip Morris USA, Inc., Case No. 98-6002, Massachusetts Superior Court)
