A July 2012 lawsuit was filed on behalf of California residents claiming that Hyundai falsely advertises its Elantra as the “40 Mile Per Gallon Elantra.” The class action alleges that Hyundai fails to inform consumers in its advertising that the 40 mpg is an estimate for highway driving only, and that other measures are much lower. (Bird v. Hyundai Motor America, et al., Superior Court of California, Sacramento County.)
