In March 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Sony Interactive Entertainment for allegedly not taking effective measures to prevent children from creating accounts on PlayStation Network and using their parents’ debit or credit cards to pay for in-game purchases in games that are free to download and play. The complaint claims that games – such as Fortnite Battle Royale – do not warn consumers about the in-game purchases feature and induces children to make in-game purchases without authorization from a parent or guardian.
