In May 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Epson America for allegedly misleadingly representing that installing its software and firmware updates in Epson printers would improve and fix issues without disclosing that installing the updates would prevent printers from working if third-party ink cartridges were installed. (Mondigo et al v. Epson America, Inc., Case No. 20-cv-4400, C.D. Cal.)
