September 2016: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Kate Spade for allegedly falsely advertising discounts of merchandise sold at its outlet stores. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the store deceptively offers percentage discounts from retail prices when, according to plaintiffs, the merchandise was never sold at the represented retail price. In addition, the complaint claims that the merchandise sold at outlet stores was manufactured exclusively for the outlet stores and of inferior quality. (Plaintiffs filed an amended complaint in February 2017.) (Irvine et al v. Kate Spade and Company and Does 1-50, Case No. 16-cv-7300, S.D.N.Y.)
