Coca-Cola’s Sugar-Sweetened Beverages
In July 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against The Coca-Cola Company for, among other things, allegedly misleading consumers about the characteristics of sugar-sweetened beverages by obscuring the link between beverages and diseases (including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease) and deceptively focusing on inactivity as the cause of these conditions. (Lamar et al v. The Coca-Cola Company and American Beverage Association, Case No. 2017-CA-004801-B, Superior Court of the District of Columbia)
