CenturyLink’s Pure Broadband Package

In October 2017, a state court judge preliminarily approved a class-action settlement agreement of a false advertising lawsuit against CenturyLink. Plaintiffs claim that the company fails to disclose that its “Pure Broadband” package is not a purely broadband service and is bundled with a limited-use phone line. According to the settlement terms, a $7,500,000 settlement fund will be used to pay attorneys’ fees and expenses, incentive payments to named plaintiffs, administration costs, and class members. The payments to class members will be a percentage of certain service charges billed to them, and the amount will depend on various factors, including the number of months class members were Pure Broadband customers. A final fairness hearing is January 22, 2018. (Sanford et al v. Centurytel of Missouri, LLC d/b/a CenturyLink, Case No. 12BA-CV-4686, Missouri State Court – Circuit Court of Boone County)
