In December 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Brightwood College for allegedly misleadingly advertising that the school would be open for students to complete their programs and receive their diplomas when, according to plaintiffs, the school lost its accreditation and abruptly closed and thus students could not complete their programs or receive diplomas. (Garcia et al v. Virginia College, LLC d/b/a Brightwood College et al, Case No. 18-cv-621, E. D. TX.)
