Allegations: Falsely advertising discounts from artificially inflated prices
In November 2016, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Ashley Furniture for allegedly misleadingly advertising furniture – including sofas, loveseats, sectionals, and ottomans – with DuraBlend upholstery. According to the complaint, the store marketed DuraBlend® upholstery as being leather and durable when, in reality, the upholstery is “blended leather” (i.e., a man-made material consisting of leather scraps and fiber), does not hold up to normal wear and tear, and peels and disintegrates within a short period of time. (Perisic et al v. Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc., Case No. 16-cv-3255, M. D. FL.)
