Barlean’s Greens Supplement Powders

In May 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Barlean’s for allegedly deceptively advertising its Greens Supplement Powders. The complaint claims that the company misleadingly advertises the product as a vegan superfood that provides various health benefits – including cleansing organs and tissues, improving digestion, detoxifying, and promoting a healthy immune system – when, according to the plaintiffs, the claims are not substantiated and thus violate the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). In addition, plaintiffs allege that the company claims the supplement provides health benefits without disclosing that the powders contain more lead than is allowed under California law, which is harmful to health. (Brannon et al v. Barlean’s, Case No. 18-cv-981, S.D. Cal.)
