Verizon: ‘You Dunk It, We Upgrade It’
Except when there’s battery damage.
This notice sent by mail for a free Tablet may seem exciting at first, but there’s a catch. In order to receive your “New 7″ Tablet,” you must attend a 90-minute pitch for DirectBuy of Greater Hartford, a buying club that uses group buying power to get lower prices on various items. If you’re interested in sitting through the presentation, that’s fine — but this caveat is hidden in the Sometimes termed “mouse print” or, more benignly, “disclosure language”, and presented in miniscule font. It is there to take back every enticing offer made in the ad. behind a fold in the letter –along with other requirements– and you should know about it.
Fine print:
Our Ad Alerts are not just about false and deceptive marketing issues, but may also be about ads that, although not necessarily deceptive, should be viewed with caution. Ad Alerts can also be about single issues and may not include a comprehensive list of all marketing issues relating to the brand discussed.
Except when there’s battery damage.
As a TINA.org reader put it, it’s only “free” if you first spend money.
