FTC cites company for deceptive Made in the USA claims.

iSpring Water Systems’ Made in the USA marketing has sprung a leak.

Under a settlement with the FTC, the Georgia-based distributor of residential and commercial water filtration systems has agreed to stop marketing its products as “Built in USA” unless it can prove that the claim complies with the agency’s standard for unqualified Made in the USA claims.

If a product is not “all or virtually all” made or sourced in the U.S., that product cannot be marketed with an unqualified Made in the USA claim under the FTC’s standard. Currently, iSpring’s products are either wholly imported or contain a significant amount of imported parts, according to the FTC.

The company’s water filtration systems are sold on its website, 123filter.com, and through online retailers such as Amazon, Overstock and Walmart, which has its own Made in the USA labeling issues.
