Domino’s ‘Any Pizza’ for $9.99 Deal

In recent ads, Domino’s claims to be offering its “best deal ever.”

“It’s the only deal that gets you any Domino’s pizza, with any toppings, for just $9.99,” the pizza chain says in the TV commercial above, which also specifies that this price applies to “any crust.”

The company also advertises this $9.99 “any pizza” deal on TikTok and Instagram, and through sponsored social media posts by influencer Trisha Paytas, Duke basketball players and brothers Cameron and Cayden Boozer, and Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles, who claims that you can “literally build a pizza however you want.”

However, after receiving a tip about this deal from a reader, we discovered that it does not, in fact, cover “any pizza.”

For starters, despite Domino’s claim that you can get “any crust” for $9.99, the company charges an extra $3 to upgrade to its Parmesan stuffed crust. And the company’s terms contain several more caveats including:

  • Extra large pizzas are not included.
  • Its 11 specialty pizzas are not included.
  • There is a maximum of seven toppings for most pizzas and a maximum of six toppings for pan and New York style crusts.
  • Prices may vary by location.

The terms also state that there is a minimum purchase required for delivery, which may require consumers to buy more than just one pizza – and spend more than $9.99 – to get this deal delivered.

For example, when we tried to order one $9.99 pizza for delivery (for research purposes, of course), Domino’s website told us that we did not meet the store’s minimum delivery cost of $18, even after a $4.99 delivery fee was automatically added to our total.

Unfortunately, these conditions are often omitted from Domino’s $9.99 “any pizza” ads and when there is a disclaimer – like in the TV ad above – it is often so small and disappears so quickly that consumers will likely miss it.

For those who can’t zoom in enough to read it, the disclaimer states:

PRICES HIGHER IN SOME LOCATIONS. Excludes XL and Specialty Pizzas. Parmesan Stuffed Crust will be extra. Select this offer from 2/23-4/6. Online Only. Size availability varies by crust type. Max. 7 toppings (6 for Pan and NY Style crust). Min. purchase required for delivery. Prices, participation, delivery area and charges may vary.

Domino’s did not respond to a request for comment.

The bottom line

Although Domino’s has a new ad jingle, the company seems to be using familiar tactics by advertising deals without clearly disclosing the strings attached.

Consumers should be cautious when a company claims that a deal applies to “any” of its products and make sure to read the fine print to learn the full information about the advertised deal.
