Products marketed to treat COVID are pulled in wake of FDA/FTC warning letter.
Bespoke Apothecary has pulled two products from its online store after receiving a warning letter from the FDA and FTC over unapproved claims that the products treat the symptoms of COVID-19.
As a result, product pages for the company’s “COVID kit” and “Post COVID (virus) Recovery Herbal Tea” (as captured above by the Internet Archive in May 2022) now direct to the online store’s main page.
In addition, the company removed two social media posts regulators also flagged for containing unapproved drug claims, including an Instagram post that was tagged #longcovidrecovery.
Remember, readers, marketing anything other than FDA-approved drugs as having the ability to treat, cure, alleviate the symptoms of, or prevent developing diseases and disorders is simply not permitted by law.
Also of note, you may have noticed that Bespoke Apothecary spelled COVID using a special character instead of the letter “O.” Earlier this year, TINA.org came up with a name for this tactic used by marketers to evade regulators in the COVID era: the accidental typo on purpose.
In this scenario, though, it doesn’t seem to have worked.
