April Fools: How Some Companies Prank Consumers with Common Marketing Terms
These definitions are a joke.
A class-action lawsuit was filed against Basic Research Labs for allegedly falsely advertising a dietary weight-loss supplement Vysera-CLS. Specifically, the complaint claims that the company markets the supplement as a “miracle pill” and “the amazing Cupcake Diet” that will result in significant weight and fat loss by causing a person to absorb only a fraction of the calories consumed when, in reality, the supplement does not work as advertised and the company does not have adequate scientific evidence to support such claims. The lawsuit was originally filed in a New York court in 2015 and transferred to a Utah court in September 2016. (Spence et al v. Basic Research, LLC et al, Case No. 16-cv-925, D. UT.)
