Turkey Hill Vanilla Ice Creams

In August 2019, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Turkey Hill for allegedly misleadingly advertising that several varieties of its ice creams are vanilla ice cream when, according to the plaintiffs, the ingredient list on the back of the cartons reveals that vanilla is not the sole flavoring ingredient. According to the complaint, the ice creams contain annatto – a coloring ingredient used in cheddar cheese – to make the ice creams look more like the flavor comes from vanilla. In addition, the complaint claims that the cartons of ice cream do not adequately disclose that the ice creams are naturally and artificially flavored. (Kane et al v. Turkey Hill, L.P., Case No. 19-cv-4794, E. D. NY.)
