April 2015: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Tinder for, among other things, allegedly falsely advertising the Tinder dating app. According to the complaint, Tinder markets the app as “free” when, in reality, consumers need to pay for services starting March 2015. In addition, Tinder fails to adequately disclose the terms and conditions of its automatic renewal and continuous service subscriptions resulting in the company charging consumers without their consent.
