Allegations: Promoting illegal virtual gambling games
In April 2020, a class-action lawsuit was filed against the mobile game company Zynga Inc. for allegedly misleadingly promising that it takes “reasonable and appropriate security measures” to protect the personal data it collects from players when, according to the complaint, the company did not use adequate measures to protect users’ personal data. According to the plaintiffs, the company uses password encryption methods that have been banned by the federal government for years and players’ passwords saved for some games were not encrypted at all.
