TINA’s Take: INFORM Consumers Act Goes Into Effect
New law aims to provide more transparency to online transactions and to deter online shopping fraud.
In June 2017, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Progressive Laboratories for allegedly falsely representing the amount of iodine in its kelp supplement. Specifically, the complaint alleges that the company represents that each pill contains 500 micrograms of iodine when, according to plaintiffs, each pill contains 960 micrograms of iodine, which they allege is excessive and potentially dangerous. (Noonan et al v. Progressive Laboratories Inc., Case No. 17-CH-08233, Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, Chancery Division)
