In May 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against People’s United Bank for allegedly misrepresenting that it only charges overdraft fees if customers do not have enough money in their checking accounts to cover transactions when, according to the plaintiffs, the bank routinely charges overdraft fees when customers have enough money to pay all the transactions.
