March 2014: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Nest Labs, Inc. for allegedly misleadingly advertising its Nest Learning Thermostat. Among other things, plaintiffs claim that the company’s marketing materials represent that its thermostat will save consumers both energy and money when the product actually causes energy use and costs to increase.
