October 2013: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Maibec Incorporated, a manufacturer of wood shingles made from the Eastern White Cedar tree, for allegedly falsely representing the characteristics of its shingles. Specifically, the plaintiffs claim that the company represents that the shingles will last for 50 years when, according to the complaint, these shingles “routinely” warp, peel, crack, buckle, curl, and deteriorate before 50 years have passed.
