June 2020: The appeal was dismissed When a complaint is dismissed without prejudice, an amended version of the complaint can be refiled. because the objector reached a settlement agreement with Craft Brew Alliance. According to the terms, the objector will receive $33,000 ($25,500 from class counsel and $7,500 from Craft Brew Alliance).
March 2020: An objector filed a Notice of Appeal regarding the order granting final approval of the settlement agreement.
February 2020: A federal judge granted final approval of the settlement agreement.
June 2019: A federal judge granted preliminary approval of the settlement agreement.
May 2019: Plaintiffs moved for preliminary approval of a proposed settlement agreement that would provide class members with a cash award of $1.25 for each 4-pack or 6-pack purchased, $2 for each 12-pack purchased, and $2.75 for each 24-pack purchased. Class members with proof of purchase may receive a maximum award of $20 per household and those without proof of purchase may receive a maximum award of $10 per household. The company also agreed to list the locations where Kona Beers are brewed on the product packaging but only for a period of four years.
April 2017: Plaintiffs filed a Consolidated Class Action Complaint alleging that Kona Brewing Co. beers are marketed as being brewed in Hawaii when, according to plaintiffs, the beers are actually brewed in Oregon, Washington, Tennessee, and New Hampshire. (Plaintiffs amended their consolidated complaint in December.) (Broomfield et al v. Craft Brew Alliance, Inc., Case No. 17-cv-1027, N.D. Cal.)
March 2017: The Cilloini case was consolidated with a similar case, Broomfield et al v. Kona Brewing Co. (Case No. 17-cv-1159, N.D. Cal.)
February 2017: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Craft Brew Alliance for allegedly falsely marketing that Kona Brewing Company craft beers are made in Hawaii when, according to the complaint, the beers are actually made in the continental United States. (Cilloni et al v. Craft Brew Alliance, Case No. 17-cv-1027, N.D. Cal.)
