
FTC Files for Injunction as IML Shuts Down

July 2014: This case was dismissed When a complaint is dismissed with prejudice, it cannot be refiled. after the settlement terms were satisfied.
January 2014: A state court judge reviewed a settlement agreement reached by the parties and approved the dismissal of this action upon the satisfaction of the settlement terms. The settlement agreement indicates that Petaluma Egg Farm obtained a Certified Humane certification and agreed to make changes to the marketing for the eggs for a period of four years unless there are changes to farming practices or packaging mandated by law. In addition, the company agreed to make donations to Public Justice Foundation, Consumer Action, and Sonoma Humane Society.
October 2012: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Petaluma Egg Farm in October 2012 for marketing its Judy’s Family Farm Eggs as coming from cage-free, happy, sunbathing chickens, when, according to plaintiffs, the chickens spend their lives in “modern, barren industrial sheds with no grassy fields and no outdoor access.” (Glover v. Steven Mahrt dba Petaluma Egg Farm, No. RG12-650058, Superior Court for the State of California – Alameda County).
