In October 2013, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Eastern Specialty Finance, Inc. d/b/a Check ‘N Go for allegedly misleadingly marketing “payday loans” and “installment loans.” Among other things, plaintiffs claim that the company advertises the loans as “a short-term solution and not as a source of ongoing help,” when, in reality, the company intends to burden borrowers with expensive, long-term debt that they will have no ability to repay.
