April 2018: A class-action lawsuit was filed against Clif Bar & Company for allegedly marketing Clif Kid ZBars – including the Original, Filled, Protein, and Fruit and Veggie varieties – as being healthy and nutritious when, according to plaintiffs, the bars contain an excessive amount of sugar, which causes diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
