In October 2015, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Avid Life Media, Inc. and Avid Dating Life, Inc. d/b/a Ashley Madison for, among other things, allegedly deceptively representing that (a website for married people who are looking to have extramarital affairs) had 5.5 million female profiles (or 30% of its users) when, in reality, only 15% of the website’s users were women. (Poyet et al v. Avid Life Media, Inc. and Avid Dating Live, Inc. d/b/a Ashley Madison, Case No. 15-cv-8456, C. D. CA.)
