Homeaglow

TINA.org investigated Homeaglow, an online home cleaning services platform, and found that it is engaged in numerous false and deceptive marketing tactics. Among other things, the company falsely advertises $19 house cleanings to lure consumers to enter their credit card information on its website through a process designed to pressure them to speed through their transactions and avoid reading material terms of its subscription autorenewal program, which are not clearly and conspicuously disclosed, in violation of the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA) and FTC laws.

The Washington Attorney General, to whom TINA.org provided its investigation findings, files an enforcement action against Homeaglow (as well as a subsidiary and its two co-founders) for deceptively offering $19 home cleanings while hiding that acceptance automatically enrolled them in a $59/month membership for a minimum of six months, charging exorbitant early termination fees, and falsely advertising a high star rating while suppressing negative feedback.

A consent decree was filed the same day, which requires Homeaglow to pay $2.25 million, cancel memberships upon request, stop charging early termination fees, notify existing ForeverClean members of their right to cancel for free, overhaul its advertising and enrollment practices to clearly disclose all material terms of its negative option membership before obtaining billing information, stop using fake urgency tactics like countdown timers and cease suppressing or misrepresenting customer reviews.
