My Passport Hub, a website that offers passport services, touts that it has “processed” more than 700,000 passports, saving consumers over 1,000 hours.
“Highly recommend for anyone who wants to avoid paperwork,” states a customer testimonial on the company’s website.
But My Passport Hub doesn’t actually submit any passport applications to the U.S. government. Moreover, the forms that you can fill out for a fee on the company’s site can be completed for free on the Department of State’s website. (The company doesn’t readily disclose the cost of its fees but consumers have reported being charged more than $100.)
In fact, two of the services that My Passport Hub offers – renewing a passport and reporting one as lost or stolen – can be done completely online using the State Department’s website. Applying for a new passport requires a visit to an authorized passport acceptance facility, such as a post office, library or local government office.
My Passport Hub also does not pay any government fees.
Yet the company’s website makes it seem like it does all the work for you. And only in the fine print of the website does the company disclose that “the documents required to apply for a U.S. passport can also be obtained for free on the U.S. official Government Passport website.”
In addition, filling out some of these passport forms may not be as time-consuming as My Passport Hub suggests it is. The form to report a passport as lost or stolen, for example, is only two pages and states that the “estimated burden” is five minutes.
TINA.org looked into My Passport Hub after receiving a complaint from a consumer who took issue with the company charging for free online government forms. In fact, several consumers have complained about the company’s marketing and business practices. A July 2025 Trustpilot review, for example, states:
This company makes it out as if they will take your information and submit it to the government or moreso as if they are the government and then wa-la, your new passport will arrive by mail. WRONG! They send you an email hours later with the information you provided and it is typed digitally onto the needed form that needs to be printed, signed, and mailed into the state. Keep in mind, this is a free form. Me and my wife both just filled it out thinking wow how convenient, no lines, no waiting for months. $170.00 a pop. … I did follow up with the company and they did provide a refund for me and my wife.
Similarly, a consumer wrote to the BBB in March that:
At the end of their process, AFTER I paid, I received a notice (in larger print) saying that they were a private business and that the form I submitted was available for free on the gov site, that they would review my data for completeness and issue me a PDF form used by the gov and I would have to pay an additional fee to the gov.
My Passport Hub did not respond to TINA.org’s request for comment.
The bottom line? Before paying for something that you can get for free, do your research. You also don’t want to potentially be putting your personal information at risk for nothing.
