Bread, milk, eggs and … Fireball Cinnamon Whisky?

Supermarket shoppers may have noticed some stores carrying what appear to be small bottles of the whisky-based product. In fact, it is a different product that contains no whisky. Its name: Fireball Cinnamon.

“The bottles appear identical but for the word ‘Whisky’ on the front label, which most purchasers seeking alcohol will not even detect,” states a lawsuit against the maker of Fireball, spirits giant Sazerac, whose brands also include Southern Comfort, Blanton’s and Buffalo Trace.

The lawsuit accuses Sazerac of misleading consumers into believing Fireball Cinnamon contains whisky when it is actually a malt beverage with whisky flavors that clocks in at 16.5% ABV (which is exactly half the ABV of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky). It debuted in the summer of 2020.

Fireball is one of the best-selling spirits brands in the U.S., outperforming such brands as Captain Morgan and Jack Daniel’s.

A Sazerac spokesperson said the company doesn’t comment on ongoing litigation.
