Best Reader Tips of 2021
This year reader tips led to dozens of ad alerts, as well as a complaint to regulators.
Over $10 billion a year is spent on advertising cars and trucks, which results in an endless stream of television, Internet, and print ads promoting the almighty auto. Some of the ads from the automakers are quite entertaining. But it’s the local ads from the dealerships that provide you with some information about your potential purchase (if you can bear to watch them).
But as these ads show, the information provided is incomplete, and the fine print is usually so small that it can’t be read.
So before you get sucked in by advertising offers of unusually low interest rates or other special promotions, be sure that you understand all the terms of the dealer’s financing package, and remember that finding the best deal requires careful research and comparison shopping.
