In October 2019, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Epson America for allegedly representing that updates to the software and firmware for Epson printers will improve and fix issues with the printers without telling consumers that the printers will not work with printer cartridges from other companies after the updates are installed. (Mondigo et al v. Epson America, Inc., Case No. 19-cv-2009, S. D. CA.)
